Microsoft Sc 401 Firebrand Training

New at Firebrand — Microsoft Certified: Information Security Administrator Associate (SC-401)

As of 1 June, Microsoft SC-401 has replaced SC-400 at Firebrand. What's changed?

The popular Microsoft Purview course SC-400, also known as Information Protection and Compliance Administrator Associate, has been replaced by a new course with an enriched focus, SC-401.

Who is SC-401 for? Should you attempt it? Let's take a look.

What is Microsoft SC-401?

Microsoft SC-401 expands the subject matter of SC-400 by focusing on information protection. According to Microsoft, while SC-400 focused on compliance, data lifecycle management, and regulatory adherence using Microsoft Purview, the new course focuses on information protection, data protection, risk mitigation, and threat response specifically within the Microsoft 365 ecosystem.

SC-401 vs. SC-400 — How do they differ?

SC-401 is a wider-ranging course that helps you strengthen your expertise in Microsoft Purview and Microsoft Defender.

The new course covers important aspects that the older one did not, such as Data Security Posture Management for AI (DSPM for AI), Information security & risk mitigation, as well as

  • Defender for Cloud Apps Labels
  • Purview Info Protection Client
  • DLP with Adaptive Protection
  • Just-in-Time Protection
  • Defender for Endpoint Integration
  • Adaptive Protection
  • Microsoft Defender XDR
  • Defender for Cloud Apps Alerts
  • and OCR Support, among others.

If you didn't get a chance to take the old course, don't consider it a loss, as the new one is much improved and up-to-date with important topics such as AI.

Who should take SC-401?

This course is especially useful for:

  • Information Security Administrators and, specifically, Microsoft 365 Administrators
  • Cybersecurity Administrators
  • Risk Managers
  • Data Protection Specialists
  • Compliance Officers
  • and professionals in similar roles

To attend this course, you should be familiar with Microsoft 365, including PowerShell, Microsoft Entra, and Microsoft Defender (inc. Cloud Apps).

How long does the course take?

At Firebrand, SC-401 takes only 3 days, including the official exam.

Where is the course delivered?

This course is currently in development at Firebrand. We're preparing to offer it at our distraction-free training facilities (accommodations & meals included) and online through live, instructor-led training (nothing prerecorded!).
